To Our Customers

Yamato Scientific Co., Ltd., has a long history of 114 years since its founder, Sosuke Morikawa, established the Yamatoya Sosuke Morikawa Trading Company in Nihonbashi, Tokyo in 1889. In 1915, the company succeeded in developing the first X-ray tube in Japan, and mainly had dealt in scientific-related consumables such as precision glass products before the World War II. After the war, the company changed its field of business to manufacturing and dealing in R&D-related instruments. At the same time, the company built up dealers' network throughout Japan, that has become the foundation of our current business activities.

Currently, Yamato Scientific operates its business with the management philosophy of "supporting innovations in R&D and production technologies, thereby contributing to the development of scientific technologies that bring happiness to mankind." We have four business categories; scientific instruments, laboratory furniture, analytical & measuring instruments and testing equipment. The company recorded the sales of 33.9 billion yen for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2002 and has 411 employees as of April 1, 2002. Yamato Scientific has a factory operated by Yamato Scientific Co.,Ltd. Minami Alps Factory in Yamanashi Prefecture that has obtained the ISO9001 and ISO14001 approvals. We pride ourselves on being the top company among Japan's scientific instruments industry.

Yamato Scientific has leading sales network of sales offices and dealers in Japan and deals in products of Japan's leading manufacturers. In addition, it also imports and deals in high-tech instruments from other countries.

The Yamato Scientific group includes R&D, manufacturing and logistics-related subsidiaries, affiliates that operate in the fields of medical instruments, food container and new materials, and overseas subsidiaries and affiliates in the U.S., Korea and Taiwan (ROC).

The consolidated sales for the fiscal year 2001 was approximately 69 billion yen. The number of the group employees as of the fiscal year 2001 was around 1,100.

To bring Japan's slogan "Science Technology Forged Nation" into reality, we will support public & private institutions' innovative research and development, and we will educate ourselves for further collaborations.

Yamato Scientific strives to support innovations in R&D and production technologies, thereby contributing to the development of scientific technologies that bring happiness to mankind. Our contributions will be made in the following six fields :

  1. To build research infrastructures and suitable environments by providing generic scientific instruments and research facilities.
  2. To increase productivity in the electronics industry by providing measuring, inspection, and evaluation instruments.
  3. To the innovation of biotechnologies such as genome-creating pharmaceutical by providing separation, composition, purification, and analytical instruments.
  4. To the technology innovations such as formation of nano-scale structures and physical material evaluations.
  5. To preserve the natural environment such as environmental hormone countermeasures through provision of environmental equipments and evaluation & analysis techniques.
  6. To create new industries and business models through supporting seeds-of-needs at the innovative research and development areas.

Management Policies for Fiscal Year 2002

  1. Reinforcement of the profit-focused management system
    1) To increase sales-to- profit from operations ratio
    2) To implement department-by-department net profit management system
  2. Enhancement of expertise in each market segment
    1) To enhance the product-based specialist marketing system
    2) To implement measures to expand businesses from government agencies and academic institutions for research and development programs
  3. Orientation toward a technology-focused enterprise
    1) To complete the first 3-year product development program and prepare the second product development program
    2) To promote joint product development programs with academic institutions
  4. Streamlining of business flows and procedures
    1) To streamline work flows leading to cost reductions
    2) To rationalize purchasing process and reduce logistics costs
  5. Promotion of group-wide management strategies including subsidiaries
    To improve the consolidated financials (optimization of bank debt and inventories.)

  2. We aim to reduce environmental burden within the extent of our technologies and budgets, and we commit to provide environment-safe products
  3. We prioritize to procure environment-safe products and supplies
  4. We endorse to save energy and natural resources, and reduce industrial waste in all of our business activities
  5. We comply with internal and external environmental guidelines
